Tripod Crest field trial confirms 30%+ fuel and CO2 emissions savings with HHydrOdrive

Hydrogenica recently completed a six-week field trial with Tripod Crest Limited, one of the UK’s leading provider of complete road surfacing solutions.

The results are conclusive: a 30+% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions – a direct validation of the technology’s ability to cut both fuel costs and CO₂ emissions immediately!

Trial Setup
The trial was conducted using one of Tripod Crest’s Scania R580 low loader, GVW 55-56 MT  on regular operational routes with all data collected via three different sources –  Scania on-board computer, CameraMatics  and Tripod’s Crest own staff.

  • 2 months pre-test period average fuel consumption and CO2 footprint no HHydrOdrive installed.
  • 2 weeks baseline testing with no HHydrOdrive installed
  • 6 weeks with HHydrOdrive active (one control week mid-trial with the system switched off)
  • Real-world, on-road data collected directly from on-board computer, CameraMatics and odometer readings and full-tank refuelling logs

 

Results at a Glance

Average fuel efficiency increased from 5.45 MPG (51.9 L/100 km) in baseline operation to 8.08 MPG (34.9 L/100 km) with HHydrOdrive engaged — representing a 33% improvement in fuel economy and proportional CO₂ reduction.

Following these results, Tripod Crest’s first commercial HHydrOdrive order is now rolling off our production line, marking the start of a long-term collaboration. Together, we’re now working on re-designing HHydrOdrive to fit on Tripod Crest’s highway planers, extending the technology’s benefits from long-haul routes to heavy-duty road machinery.
